About Raku
Raku ware (楽焼, raku-yaki) is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies, most often in the form of chawan tea bowls.
This workshop is designed for intermediate and advanced students who already know how to build their own work and will require little/no technical help during the making process. This class/workshop will focus on glazing and firing bisque ware for the Raku process. All the work fired in our Raku Kiln will not be functional. This is because the pieces will not get to vitrification temp and the composition of the glazes.
Please bring your preferred work, and be ready to glaze.
Rediscover raku
Glazing is a process of providing a glassy layer on the surface of clay products or ceramics. The glazing layer is fused to a ceramic body by burning at a high temperature. Glazes consist of silica, fluxes and aluminum oxide and can serve to color, decorate or waterproof an item.
