Adrian Sandstrom: Sandstrom grew up in rural Iowa on a pig farm. He first became fascinated with clay while taking a ceramic class in high school. He never dreamed he would end up making it his career and life’s passion.
After graduating with a BA in Art from Buena Vista University, Sandsrom continued his study of clay by apprenticing with master potter, Hank Goodman, in Asheville, NC. Moving to Southern California in 2004, Sandstrom began working with ceramist, Ricky Maldonado, while setting up a studio and teaching ceramic classes.
Presently Adrian resides in Los Angeles, CA, where he works out of his studio, continues to teach ceramic classes at the Palos Verdes Art Center, throws for a production potter, and showcases his work in numerous shows and galleries nation-wide. Current work is all wheel thrown, multi-fired porcelain. A typical pot is fired up to 4 times with a max temperature reaching cone 6 along with multiple layers of sprayed and brushed; slips, underglazes, and glazes. Lastly, pots are finished with a layer of brushed luster, fired to cone 019.
