Figurative Sculpture with Julie Latayan

This class is designed for all levels of hand building. During the six-week course, students will be creating two figurative sculptures that tell a story, with emphasis on the human body and animals we choose. Students will make simple sketches of their vision. The building techniques used are slab, pinch, coiling and armature. Students will be introduced to cold finishes as an option for completion of the project. The class includes one bag of clay and firing of the piece. All students are encouraged to come to open studio time to work on projects. Basics will be covered in class but the completion of the project depends on each students’ goals and involvement. Week 1: Discuss relationships and feelings (Friendship, love, anger, fear) and how we can express them visually in clay. Through exaggeration in size, expression, symbolic objects and posture we can make the viewer see and feel what we are trying to convey. We will be unique and open to experimentation.We will begin our sketches and rolling out slabs for the project. Lab Fee: $45
